Windows xp dynamic disk raid 1

The conversion from basic to dynamic one is easy and will not cause data loss. But Disk Management will not allow you to change a dynamic disk back to basic one unless you delete all partitions on the dynamic disk.

Of course, you will lose everything then. Step 3. Here, you will be given with two methods: Convert a dynamic disk back to basic disk. Convert any dynamic volume to basic partition. Step 4. Select the dynamic disk that you want to convert to basic disk. Step 5. Step 6. After the conversion is finished, the computer will be rebooted.

The New Volume Wizard will appear. Click Next. A window will appear prompting you to Select the volume you want to create. Select Striped as shown in the screen capture and click Next. Add Disks 0 and Disk 1 to the Selected list.

Choose the size of each disk you wish to use for the new striped disk Click Next. Choose the drive letter to assign to the drive and click Next. Click Finish on the next window. You should now see a striped disk in the Computer Management window with the sum capacity of the two areas on the disks that were selected to make the striped array, see the screen capture" There will also remain an area of unallocated space on Disk 1 if the two unused areas did not match in size.

You may format this and use it as additional storage. Click Mirrored volume , and then click Next. Under All available dynamic disks , click the disk in which you want to host the mirror, and then click Add. Verify that the disks in which you want to create a mirrored volume are listed in the Selected dynamic disks box.

In the Size box, specify the amount of unallocated disk space to use for the volume, and then click Next. Assign a drive letter or path, and then click Next. Specify the formatting options that you want to use, and then click Next. Confirm that the options that you selected are correct, and then click Finish. The mirrored volume is created and appears in the appropriate dynamic disks in the Disk Management window.

Quit Disk Management on the remote computer. How to Add a Mirror to an Existing Simple Volume To add a mirror to an existing simple volume a remote Windows Server-based computer from a Windows XP Professional-based computer, follow these steps: Connect to the Remote Computer Log on as administrator or as a member of the Administrators group. I am no expert, but I doubt that Microsoft would go after anyone with a legally obtained Windows XP license who made this modification.

Just to be on the safe side, it doesn't hurt to have a valid Windows Server license I do, through MSDN so you could argue that you just "downgraded" from that to the "modified" version of Windows XP.

On the practical side, running a hacked version of any operating system in a production environment can be very problematic.

However simple the hack is, it probably hasn't been tested for regressions the same way as real operating system components are. It may be incompatible with future hotfixes released by the vendor. Or, the vendor may release a hotfix for the hacked component, causing it to revert to an unhacked version, rendering the system unbootable. Update August 25, : a bug prevents Windows from creating mirrors 1 TB or greater in size.
